ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
Most nature lovers eventually recognize the tension between an idyllic natural
world and the one that actually exists. Biological suffering, death,
extinction, disease, pestilence and irreversible decay in the physical world at
large, though normal, are regarded intuitively as enemies. This is because the
creation, though splendid, is nonetheless subject to the consequences of the
Fall and subsequent events.
For those who wish to celebrate the creation as God’s wonderful handiwork,
distinctions must be drawn between the original, perfect Creation and the
present creation that is subject to decay on man’s account. Such distinctions,
both in the physical and biological realms, are best made by ascertaining the
effects of the Fall, the Great Flood, and Babel, all major events recorded in
the Bible. The unseemly alternatives are to regard the troubles of the natural
world as inherent, creative processes in and of themselves, or to acknowledge a
Creator, but diminish the goodness of His work.
This presentation will touch briefly on possible climatic and geologic
differences between the original Creation and the present creation. There will
be a lengthier discussion about the biological disparities between past and
present. Emphasis will be made upon the nature of death, as well as the loss
and distribution of genetic information.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
CREDENTIALS: Mr. Berndt studied at Gonzaga University and graduated from the
University of Colorado's rigorous school of engineering in 1990. Fourteen years
teaching Bible, six years instructing middle – and secondary-level science, and
five years teaching writing have marked his educational endeavors so far. He
presently teaches at Magic Valley Christian High School, accredited with the
Association of Christian Schools International and the Northwest Association of
Schools and Colleges. He has been published in several national magazines.
Chard will continue his education while working toward a Science Education
Masters at the Institute for Creation Research Grad School next summer.
PASSION: Inspired by the need for complete biblical integration in his science
department, Mr. Berndt developed curriculum to introduce middle-school science
concepts in a scope and sequence that reflects the Biblical Days of Creation.
This work stirred up a passion for the biological sciences, which caused him to
do a complete integration of biological taxonomy with biblical criteria, as
found in Genesis 1-2, Levitical law, and other scriptural passages. This study
led to his writing a book - Biblical Classification of Life. He considers his
primary inspiration to be those theistic, thinking scientists of old—who did not
omit God or His principles from science, but rather allowed God to enlighten
their work.
PERSONAL: Mr. Berndt is 34 years old. Although he grew up in Hong Kong, he now
considers himself a full-fledged Idahoan. He has enjoyed over twelve years of
marriage to his wife Carrie, and they delight in their adopted boys Eli (6) and
Isaiah (5). He enjoys mountain biking, trail running and light mountaineering,
camping with his family, and backpacking with his wife. He is currently teaching
a course called Life: Creation’s Enduring Wonder at Lighthouse Bible College in
Twin Falls.
