Foundations in Genesis of Idaho/Oregon

SPRING FIELD TRIP – SATURDAY, MAY 22, 2004
GEOLOGY AND MINERAL COLLECTING OF THE
FAREWELL BEND AREA IN OREGON

TRIP EMPHASIS:  Investigating the geology of the outlet area of Lake Idaho and collecting minerals and crystals from the local rock types.  We will take time to view the spectacular spring wild flower displays on the hills adjacent to the Snake River and discuss the early pioneer history of the area.  We’ll do some walking and short hikes of ¼ mile.

Trip Overview:  Spring is a great time for hiking the hills in the Pacific Northwest to study the evidences of God’s creative handiwork.  As noted above, this one day field trip has two meeting locations and will terminate in the Farewell Bend area of Oregon along the Snake River.  Training Session:  There will be a comprehensive training session (approx. 1 hour) with handouts, so bring camp stools or blankets for sitting comfort. During this training session, participants will learn about the geology of the Outlet of Ancestral Lake Idaho, discuss the genesis of this large post-Flood Lake, study outcrops of geologic exposures, discuss how they were formed, what the rocks tell about past conditions, and collect some beautiful crystal specimens.  All evidences point to a relatively young time frame for the geomorphic testimony of volcanic activity, tectonic mountain building, water deposition, and water erosion for this area.
