OREGON COAST FIELD ADVENTURE
Foundations in Genesis of Idaho/Oregon
March 28 to April 3, 2010
(updated 12/05/2009)

ATTENTION – SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT
for the subject Field Adventure to the Oregon Coast between the towns of Newport and Lincoln City.

We have had numerous calls and emails about a daily itinerary.  We will be sending out a detailed itinerary of daily activities in January.  The really low tides are in the morning, so we will be taking advantage of the exposed beach areas and bluff areas for tidal life observations, study of geology exposures, fossil collecting, wave hopping and other exciting things.  I am still coordinating timing of activities with knowledgeable specialists, plus a reconnaissance trip will be accomplished to the area in December or early January to ascertain site conditions for maximum utilization of time at the stop locations.

For participants and potential participants LODGING is an important early must consideration. In the Initial Announcement it was stated that Beverly Beach State Park had 21 yurts available; these have all been taken as of this date.  By far, the yurts are the cheapest form of lodging for multi-days; however, there are also cabins, and campsites at the Beverly Beach State Park.  Other yurt, cabin and campsite accommodations are available at other State Parks in the area and can be accessed via logging on website www.oregonstateparks.org/park_227.php.

If you are interesting in this Field Adventure I would encourage families to register and get their lodging reservations in now or very soon; don’t procrastinate.  People know that Spring is an exciting time for experiencing the past and present dynamics of the Oregon Coast.  The Lord has blesses us with many, many evidences that reveal his Love and Grace for each one of us to see, understand, and experience.

OREGON COAST FIELD ADVENTURE
Foundations in Genesis of Idaho/Oregon
March 28 to April 3, 2010

Initial Announcement for the subject Field Adventure to the Oregon Coast between the towns of Newport and Lincoln City.  The purpose of this announcement is to give some specifics about the field adventure and determine the number of interested families.  We do need to know the number of people who will participate by January 30, 2010 for planning activities and decisions on transportation options.

Activities:  Participants will learn amazing evidences about God’s special creation of the land and life in and near the sea, as well as see the contorted sedimentary and volcanic rock deposited during the world-wide Flood of yesteryear.  Highlights will include spending time on the beaches collecting marine fossils (deposited by the Biblical Flood), studying the geology of the sea cliffs, reviewing evidences of past tsunamis, watching for whales, observing seals, sea lions and marine birds, study evidences of ancient Native American activities, a class on tide pool edibles with Mr. Lee Gray, “The Wild Gourmet,” visit the Hatfield Marine Science Center and much more.

Transportation:  Depending on number of families involved we could travel either by family vehicle or buses or perhaps both; buses would be definitely more economical, with opportunity to discuss observations and questions between stops; however, families with vehicles are more flexible on optional travel stops and lodging.  Please indicate on the Registration Form if your family would prefer travel by family vehicle or bus.

Lodging:  Participants will need to make their own lodging arrangements.  There are 21 Yurts (all of which were available as of 11/20/09, but will go fast for spring time family outings), located at Beverly Beach State Park, about 6 miles north of Newport; costs are $30.00 per night.  Yurts are round structures with room for eight to sleep.  They have electricity, lighting, heater and for sleeping come with a futon for 2, a bunk for 2, one single bed, and room on the perimeter for three more to sleep, for a total of eight sleeping accommodations in each Yurt. Sleeping bags and blankets are necessary for each person.  Toilet/shower facilities are located centrally near the Yurts.  The Yurts can be reserved by calling Oregon State Parks at 1-800-452-5687.

If families prefer motels for lodging please refer to www.newportchamber.org for contacting a wide variety of motels in Newport and vicinity.

Food:  Remember Food is good and a very important part of each day, we do need it to keep our strength up for the activities of the day.  Each family will be responsible for their food needs.  For one evening we will get together at a local restaurant for breaking bread, discussions and sharing.

Weather and Tides:  Late winter or early spring weather on the Oregon coast can be variable and down-right fickle.  Participants need to be prepared for everything from warm and sunny to windy and rainy with a definite chill in the air.  Rain gear is a must with water boots, water shoes or tennis shoes for wet conditions.  During the week we will have minus tides up to -1.5 feet, very nice for collecting newly eroded fossils from the beach and bluff areas.

Registration:  Please use the attached Registration Form to record pertinent information for each family and send in by January 30, 2010.  Knowing the number of confirmed participants is very important for considering optional bus use and planning group activities.  Cost of $100.00 per family will include a comprehensive field guide book, admission to attractions, tide pool edibles hike with Mr. Lee Gray and all instruction.  If buses become a reality, families using a bus would have an additional cost for field trip travel.  In order to have one bus for transportation during the field adventure, about 40 people would need to confirm sign-up.  A detailed schedule of activities will be sent to confirmed participants in late February 2010.

The Oregon coast is a great location for viewing Biblical Creation and Flood evidences, plus it is a fun place to romp through the sea waves.

For questions please contact Brent H. Carter at boisecarters@aol.com or (208) 375-9592 or Doug Bennett at Geocentrix@aol.com or (208) 850-2956.

FOUNDATIONS IN GENESIS OF IDAHO/OREGON

Foundations In Genesis of Idaho/Oregon, also known as ‘FIGI’ (pronounced fig-ee), is a local Creation Science organization that hosts Adult & Children's science seminars and geological field adventures. Bringing in scientists who are experts in their fields, FIGI Seminars & Field Adventures offer fascinating information and cutting edge evidence which encourages critical thinking and an understanding of factual science which are key in which worldview (biblical or evolutionary) a person chooses.

“For by Him all things were created…”   Colossians 1:16

“For in six days the Lord made the Heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them...”
Exodus 20:11

What does science tell us about the scriptures above?  Did everything evolve millions of years ago beginning with a big bang or are we living on a relatively young earth created by God?

Please join us. Our seminars are lay people friendly and are offered at no charge.  Our geological field adventures consist of local one day trips and camping expeditions and costs are minimal. Check out our website for a history of our past seminars & Field Adventures and for upcoming events.
